As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the abandoned amusement park, Emma wandered deeper into its crumbling remains. The once-colorful signs and faded advertisements now seemed almost poignant in their neglect, as if they were trying to recall memories of happier times.
She walked along the rickety wooden beams that used to support the Ferris wheel, her footsteps quiet on the rusty metal beneath. A stray weed caught her ankle, and she stopped for a moment to brush it away.
As she continued walking, Emma couldn't shake off the feeling that someone - or something - was watching her from behind the overgrown foliage. She shivered slightly, despite the warmth of the summer evening air.
Suddenly, she heard the creaking of old wooden planks beneath her feet. It sounded almost like footsteps, only fainter. Emma turned around quickly but saw no one. Shrugging it off as her imagination playing tricks on her, she continued walking.
A sudden gust of wind swept through the park, rustling the weeds and carrying with it a faint scent of cotton candy. For a moment, Emma felt transported back to when this place was bustling with life and laughter. But when the wind died down, the sound of silence returned, heavier than before.
As she stood there, trying to make sense of her surroundings, Emma noticed something peculiar. A piece of tattered fabric caught in a rusty metal girder seemed to be waving gently in the breeze.
Without thinking, she walked towards it and carefully freed it from its tangled hold. As the fabric fluttered free, Emma realized with growing unease that it was part of an old dress - one much too small for her own slender frame.
The realization sent a shiver down Emma's spine as she turned back to see if anyone else had seen what she just did. But the only thing there was the faded sign on the Ferris wheel: "Ride with us... tonight".
